Robert Kasirer came to the US as a young child after his parents survived Nazi Europe. He went on to a career as an attorney and innovator in the health care field, having spent time managing his parents’ suite of nursing home facilities, the Golden State Health Centers. Today, Robert Kasirer is a director with the JacobRose Family Foundation and KFT Capital. He supports many causes, including Camp Ramah and the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute on Aging (IOA), where he spent time on the advisory board.

The IOA focuses on supporting research on aging and age-related diseases. The organization recently reported on new information from researchers at the University of Pennsylvania that may help improve early diagnosis and treatment of dementia.

Currently, the causes of dementia are not known, but genetics seem to play a role. In studying the brains of deceased patients, scientists have learned that there are certain proteins that are associated with various forms of dementia and that Alzheimer's generally leads to a loss of tissue in the memory regions of the brain.

Dr. David Irwin has said that PET scans performed early on a patient’s brain may reveal the accumulation of these proteins before symptoms set in, and early diagnosis and treatment has already been shown to slow the progression of dementia.

As a young boy, Robert Kasirer and his parents emigrated from Europe to the United States. Inspired by his parents' work in the nursing home field, Robert Kasirer has dedicated his career to the well-being of senior citizens. In his leisure time, Mr. Kasirer is a golfer.

An important part of golfing is learning to use the driver, a golf club with a nearly straight face. Here are a few tips for gripping a driver correctly:

Take the club in your lead hand, which is the left hand for right-handed players, and hold it approximately one inch below the top of the club’s grip. Wrap your hand around the grip so your fingers almost push into your palms and your lead hand’s thumb points down the club’s shaft.

Place your secondary hand’s small finger into the gap between your lead hand’s middle finger and forefinger. With the small finger secured, wrap the secondary hand around the club’s grip, again with the thumb pointing down the shaft.

Before swinging, make sure you're holding the club with a mid-strength grip, approximately the same as a firm handshake. A looser grip allows the club to swing, while a stronger grip reduces flexibility in the stroke.

Previously an external advisory board member of the Institute of Aging at the University of Pennsylvania, Robert Kasirer was also the owner of Golden State Health Centers, Inc., and of counsel with Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg and Phillips. Robert Kasirer currently supports several charitable and religious organizations, including Camp Ramah in California.

Part of the National Ramah Commission, Camp Ramah in California is dedicated to tikkun olam, the Torah, God, and the Jewish people. Located in California’s Ojai Valley, the camp has several sessions throughout the year. In addition to the two main camp sessions that run from June through August, the camp also offers a program for children with learning and developmental disabilities, a women’s spirituality weekend, and a family camp.

During the main camp sessions, the daily schedule is divided between socializing, recreational activities, and religious activities. Many of the recreational activities, like camping and water polo, are team sports that help campers bond while discovering talents they may not realize they have. There are also individual recreational activities, which are often done in a group setting. Jewish life at camp helps connect traditions with the campers’ everyday lives. Campers attend Hebrew classes, celebrate Israel’s culture and heritage, and attend Kabbalat Shabbat on the hill together.

Proper SoulCycle Bike Set-Up

An inventor and former health care executive, Robert Kasirer earned his juris doctor from St. John’s University School of Law and served as of counsel with Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg and Phillips. Interested in staying healthy, Robert Kasirer attends SoulCycle classes several days a week.

With more than 60 studios nationwide, SoulCycle offers a cardiovascular and full-body exercise experience. Known for its dark rooms and loud music, SoulCycle’s core component is the bike and its clip-in pedals. To ensure beginners have a positive exercise experience, SoulCycle offers basic instruction on how to mount and dismount the bike with ease, how to use the bike correctly, and how to find the best bike set-up. Because each person is different, bike set-up is an area that can mean the difference between a good workout and a miserable workout.

Correctly positioning the seat is the first step in achieving a comfortable exercise experience. Putting the seat too close or too low in relation to the handlebars can put pressure on the rider’s knees, causing pain. The ideal seat height is approximately the same height as the rider’s hip when standing flat on the floor, and the handlebars are best fixed at a height where the rider must lean slightly forward to hold them. Sitting too high or too low may cause back pain. SoulCycle trainers record each individual’s bike settings in a client profile, so the information is retained and the bike can be set the right way every time.
