Established in 1985 by Mount Zion Hospital and initially funded by the Elise Haas Fund and the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund, the nonprofit IOA is dedicated to increasing the quality of life for senior citizens in the Bay Area. By providing health services and advocacy, the IOA allows people to preserve their independence and community participation as they age.
One key program is the Adult Day Club, hosted at both the Irene Swindells and Ruth Ann Rosenberg Centers in San Francisco. There, members socialize with each other and participate in both cognitive and physical activities under the supervision of center staff. In addition to daily group exercises and individualized care plans, the clubs offer door-to-door transportation and flexible schedules from two to five days a week. For families and caregivers who need occasional support, drop-in programs are available.
